Paul Dickov has revealed his squad have been battling a sickness bug which has taken hold of a handful of his players.

The bug led to Evina being omitted from the squad which travelled to Glanford Park on Saturday which saw Rovers clinch a 2-1 derby day win thanks to goals from James Coppinger and Nathan Tyson.

Richie Wellens and Reece Wabara both played the full 90 minutes for the visitors in that game, however, Dickov said his players had been struggling with the bug.

“There’s been an illness going around the club this week, Richie Wellens had it last weekend,” the Scotsman said after his side’s Scunthorpe success.

“Reece Wabara, to be fair to him I don’t know how he got through 90 minutes [against Scunthorpe] because he’s been really, really poorly.

“He only joined us for training on the Friday, he’s been laid up all week.

“Cedric [Evina] has got it as well and there’s at least two or three others.

“The pleasing thing is that people want to go out there, even when they’re not physically at their best, to put in a performance.”

He went on: “A few of the boys are still a bit weak, recovering from it.

“The main part of it [the sickness bug] was last week so hopefully we’re over it.

“We’ve just got to make sure we look after the players.

Dickov said Evina was back fit but that his whole squad would be monitored ahead of their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy away clash with League Two third-placed Burton Albion tonight.

“We’ll have to see how a few of them are, but we want to put out a strong team on Tuesday night,” said Dickov who will be coming up against former Leicester City team-mate and now Burton boss Gary Rowett.

n Rob Jones has had a cartilage operation last week on his knee.

Dickov said the Rovers centre-back was expected to be out on the sidelines for between four to six weeks.
