Doncaster Rovers: Coppinger's thanks to Darren Ferguson

Captain James Coppinger has wished departing manager Darren Ferguson well following his decision to quit Doncaster Rovers this week.

In a short statement on Twitter, Coppinger paid tribute to Ferguson and offered his best wishes for a future away from the Keepmoat.

“After the dust has settled, I would just like to thank and wish Darren Ferguson all the best for the future,” Coppinger wrote.

“A mutual respect back up with hard work and a fantastic promotion.”

Ferguson ended his two-and-a-half year stint in charge of Rovers on Monday.

In that time he spoke of his great admiration for the evergreen ability of veteran Coppinger, whom he twice handed new deals.

On signing the most recent of those contracts, last month, Coppinger praised Ferguson for helping him to continue performing at a high level at the age of 37.

“He has been massive for extending my career over the past couple of seasons,” Coppinger said.

Meanwhile, Craig Alcock is a target of League Two side Yeovil Town.

Originally from the south west, Alcock, who was released by Rovers at the end of the season, started his career with the Glovers and made 115 appearances for the club.

And Yeovil manager Darren Way has confirmed opening talks with Alcock about a return to the club.
