Rovers received close to 150 applications before Monday’s 5pm deadline, following Darren Ferguson’s decision to resign last Monday.

A club spokesperson said: “The board are delighted with the quality of applications received in a short space of time.

“The applications are broad in terms of age range and experience.

“There are managers in there with plenty of experience and others looking to begin their careers in management.”

The applications will be whittled down on Tuesday, led by chief executive Gavin Baldwin, with the board hoping to begin the interview process in the next few days.

It appears unlikely at this stage that an appointment will be made this week but the club remain confident of achieving their initial target of having a new manager in place by the start of pre-season on June 25.

Rovers laid out a job specification last week on their official website featuring a list of requirements applicants were expected to meet.

During the interview process, candidates will be required to explain how they will guide Rovers into a challenge for a top six finish in the coming season.
