Whiteman signed a new three-and-a-half year deal with Rovers this week, showing his commitment to the club in the face of strong interest from suitors higher up the footballing pyramid.

And boss Moore believes that will send a strong message to targets that something special is happening at the Keepmoat.

"Hopefully it shows the intentions of us as a football club in terms of having good players and seeing good players tie themselves down,” Moore said.

“These are situations that have been ongoing. It's just a continuation and I'm really pleased he's signed. “We feel we know what we want to try to achieve here and know the type of player we want at the football club,” he added. “To see Ben put pen to paper is really good for all concerned.

“Hopefully the relationship will continue and his progression will continue at this club in terms of his development and him helping us move as a club where we want to get to.”

Moore also believes the deal will help pave the way for other current squad members to commit their futures to Rovers. The club are talking with several players, including Kieran Sadlier, about new contracts.

“There are talks going on with a number of our players within the senior ranks of the squad,” he said. “I hope in the next days and weeks we’ll be announcing one or two more and prolonging their stays at this club.”
