Rovers won the Away Day of the Year prize at the Football Supporters Association awards at the Tower of London on Monday night, backing up their efforts to create a welcoming atmosphere for visiting supporters.

The club have installed a family area for young away fans in the north stand as well as making the Belle Vue bar stadium open to all.

"This is a special award for us as we were put forward on the back of fan nominations, which shows that the people who come to our games recognise the efforts that go into making matchdays about more than just what happens on the pitch,” he said.

"We were recognised earlier this year as the best family club in the EFL and have had regular events like fan parks with live music outside the Belle Vue Bar, but we believe we remain in a minority of clubs in looking to replicate our family area in the away end.

"While we always hope for three points to come our way on the pitch, we recognise the times spent by supporters of all clubs following their team across the country.

“We want fans of other sides in our division to look at us as a match they cannot miss because of the warm welcome."

Rovers were on a six-club shortlist for the award alongside Accrington Stanley, Arsenal, Cardiff City, Leicester City and Wigan Athletic.
