Doncaster Junior Sunday Football League cancel 2020/21 season
Competitive junior football in Doncaster will not resume until next season.
The Doncaster & District Junior Sunday Football League had initially considered a return date of April 11.
Several clubs are understood to have been keen on concluding the season and hoped leagues may be resolved by teams playing each other once rather than twice.
However, clubs were asked to vote on either 1) cancelling the season or 2) cancelling the season and playing friendlies only. The latter was voted through.
Most leagues were yet to reach the halfway stage in terms of games played, while some teams had played as few as three games.
Grassroots football will be permitted again from March 29 in line with the government’s easing of current lockdown restrictions.
The Doncaster junior league, one of the biggest of its kind in the country, includes competitions for under 7s up to under 18s.
