Doncaster-born Joel Latibeaudiere will captain England in today’s Under-17 World Cup final against Spain.
Latibeaudiere hails from Armthorpe and went to Hungerhill School.
The 17-year-old centre back joined Premier League giants Manchester City in 2012 and signed his first professional contract with the Blues in the summer.
He captains City’s under-18s team and has been likened in style to Vincent Kompany.
England are unbeaten at the tournament in India and sealed their place in the final with a memorable 3-1 semi-final win against Brazil on Wednesday.
They beat Chile, Mexico and Iraq in the group stages, before seeing off Japan, USA and Brazil.
Today’s final in Kolkata, expected to be played in front of a crowd in excess of 66,000 in temperatures above 30C, is a repeat of the Under-17 European Championship final earlier this year, which England lost to Spain on penalties.
The match starts at 3.30pm and is live on BBC Two and the BBC Sport website.
