Darren Moore’s verdict on Fejiri Okenabirhie’s sending off in Doncaster Rovers’ loss at Gillingham

Rovers were ahead through Ben Sheaf’s excellent strike when Okenabirhie was sent off five minutes from the break for an apparent elbow on Gills full back Barry Fuller.

Gillingham went on to turn the game on its head courtesy of a pair of own goals from Cameron John.

While disappointed with the outcome, boss Moore says he had no arguments with the striker’s red card.

“I’ve got no complaints with it - it is what it is,” Moore said.

“The disappointing thing is that we lose him for a few games but we’ve just got to ride through it and move on.

“Strikers, when the ball is played into them, they put their arms up to try to control the ball on their chest.

“Fej thought the ball was coming to his chest and he’s put his arms out to try to gain some leverage.

“The only problem was that he put his arms up and caught Barry Fuller in the face.

“In terms of that, I’ve got no complaints.

“When you’re away from home and the crowd is baying for blood, you need the officials to stand up and be strong.

“It’s a red card. We’re disappointed with that.

“But I want to talk about the performance of the ten players because to come here and be in total control for large parts of the game is testament to the players.”
