Four players are on trial with Rovers and featured in Thursday’s friendly against Manchester United U21s.

They include former Rovers club captain Andy Butler and ex-Rotherham United forward Julien Lamy.

Moore told the Free Press he only wants contracted players in training from Monday onwards as he makes the final preparations for the start of the League One campaign next weekend.

And he promised to have a decision for the current trialists by the end of training on Sunday.

“I want to give them the absolute maximum opportunity,” he said.

“Jules, it was good to have a good look at him. I told him to come in and have a good week in training and then play in the game.

“I’ll have a look back at the game and have a chat with the staff and see where we go.

“The others, it was a good game to have a look at both of them.

“It’s the final week of having a few trialists in and then it will be about looking towards next season for things like that.

“The season will be upon us so it’ll be unfair. By the end of this week, we’ll be looking to draw a line under it all and then start to fully focus on the games we have coming up.”

Forward Lamy, 20, made only five appearances for Rotherham last season and joined AFC Wimbledon on loan in January.

Also on trial with Rovers are a 21-year-old holding midfielder who ended last season at a League Two club after departing a Championship side, plus a 20-year-old right back who departed a second tier side earlier this summer.

And Moore continues to be impressed by veteran Butler.

“I think Butts would have been well and truly happy with that 90 minutes against good opposition,” Moore said. “Opposition that were asking questions.

“I thought he showed his experience and I think he enjoyed it.

“He’ll keep training with us and we’ll have a good chat over the next few days about how he goes forward.”
