The board met this week to talk over budget plans for the window and beyond, including early forecasts for the finances Moore will have access to for next season.

Chief executive Gavin Baldwin suggested to the Free Press that the clubs owners are willing to back Moore in the market should Rovers remain in a promising position in the promotion race heading into January.

“The owners are very happy with the progress that Darren has made with the team and if we are still by January around the play-off area they have been clear that they want to support us in having a very good second half of the season,” Baldwin said.“After the Northampton game and with games in hand, you would say that we’ve made a good start to the season and we are definitely in with a chance of the top six which is what we want.

“We targeted the top six at the start of the season.

“Darren will be talking to the owners about whether he believes we need to strengthen and if so what he feels we need, and I would expect those to be very productive conversations.”

Moore has already suggested to the board which of his current players he would like to negotiate new deals for.

The likes of Joe Wright, Jon Taylor, Brad Halliday and Reece James will all enter the last six months of their contracts in January.

Baldwin said: “We would expect to be able to have meaningful negotiations with any of the players in that squad right now that Darren would like us to keep.

“We’re not in a position at all whereby players would have to go to balance the books at all.

“As long as we can have sensible conversations, we expect to have contract negotiations with any players that Darren wants us to have.

“The meeting with Darren is next week but conversations have been going on for weeks or months and then following that conversations will begin formally.

“And you would hope they would be concluded in January or at the latest in February.”
