The Rovers boss has so far been coy on specific areas of his recruitment during January but says the departure of Ben Whiteman coupled with injuries has put landing a new midfielder high on his agenda.

Madger Gomes returned to training this week after a long term hamstring injury but Moore says he will exercise caution over the Spanish midfielder’s comeback to ensure he does not suffer a setback.

“When I look at the squad we are definitely light in there,” he said.

“With Ben going and Madger is just getting back into training now but we’ve got to integrate him back in.

“With Ben going out of the door we’re a bit light in there.

“That is probably an area that we are looking towards.

“It’s great to have Madger back in and it was great to see him out there on Monday.

“He’s back in training which is a real positive but we need to give him time to get back up to full speed.

“With the length of time with him being off, there is a temptation for me to look at him as being another body available but you’ve got to integrate him back in.

“With the games the way they are now, with a succession of games, we’ve got to get him back up to speed because the next two months are epic.”

Moore is awaiting the results of a scan on an injury to Tyreece John-Jules before fully deciding upon his focus in the transfer window.

And that will include determining the number of players he will seek to add to his squad before the end of the month, with securing a wide forward also high on his list of priorities.

He said: “In regards to players and numbers of what we actually need, we need specifics.

“Dependent on this scan result and looking at the length of time some of the others are going to be out for, I can make some decisions going forward.”
