Darren Moore backs Alex Kiwomya after his Doncaster Rovers release

Darren Moore believes Alex Kiwomya is capable of having a long and successful career despite his struggles at Doncaster Rovers.

The 24-year-old was a marquee signing for Rovers from Chelsea in 2017 but left the club this summer having made only 20 appearances.

His first year at the club saw Kiwomya’s career put on hold, having contracted the rare auto-immune disorder Guillain-Barré syndrome which required intensive fitness work to recover from.

But after his recovery, he failed to break through for successive managers at Rovers, making just four appearances apiece for Grant McCann and Moore, while also being sent out for a string of loans.

Moore however says Kiwomya still has the opportunity to prove his time at Rovers was a blip in his career.

“I spoke to Alex about his situation,” Moore told the Free Press.

“It was one of them and I’ve said this to him, players sometimes have the experience of joining a club and it not working out but you move on.

“Sometimes you need that experience and it allows you to become more mature, have more understanding of how football works.

“What you need to do in the next one that becomes available is to make sure you learn from your experiences and show what you’re all about.

“Sometimes people end up saying how come it didn’t work here and did somewhere else?

“I’m sure we’ve had some players this season where it’s worked out here for them and they’ve kicked on.

“That might be the same for Alex.”
