Danny Amos 'must push' Reece James for Doncaster Rovers' left back berth

Playing back up should be the furthest thing from Danny Amos’ mind after signing his new deal at Doncaster Rovers.

That is the verdict of boss Darren Moore after the left back agreed a new one-year deal at the club.

Amos concluded last season in the starting XI for Rovers following an injury to Reece James.

And Moore believes the 20-year-old should be focused on keeping James out of the side on a regular basis as he heads into the new campaign.

“I’m really pleased for Danny,” Moore told the Free Press.

“As we know about him, whenever he has stepped in he’s never looked out of place.

“He’s one of them that has been very much part of it all.

“He’s coming back now to very much compete with Reece James for that starting place.

“Danny has shown he is more than capable.

“It’s got to be his remit to challenge and step in and show he can compete with Reece and do well consistently.

“We’re pleased he’s signed on.

“At the age he is, he needs to be focused on competing over the course of the season.

“I think he’s more than capable of doing it. I don’t see why he should fear it.

“He should be thinking about getting in and staying in. That’s the mindset I like.”

Sheffield-born Amos has made 12 senior appearances for Rovers since his debut in the 2016/17 season.

He extended his contract this week alongside fellow academy graduate Louis Jones and midfielder Ben Blythe.
