Central Midlands: Askern manage to get their game on but fall to heavy defeat

Askern were the only local Central Midlands League North Division side in action last weekend in what was another heavily-affected round of matches.

Despite managing to get their game on, against the odds given the huge rainfall encountered locally, they maybe would have wished they hadn’t as they crashed to a 5-0 loss at much-improved Phoenix.

The loss means Askern missed the chance to steal a march on the clubs around them who were without a game.

The Doncaster side, who would have gone fourth had they won, found themselves behind after just 35 seconds with the same player netting again on the half-hour from the penalty spot.

Askern remained in contention until the 75th minute when the Rotherham side added a third. The hosts made it 4-0 prior to a late own goal completing their tally to repeat their 5-0 win over AFC Bentley at the start of the month.

Promotion-chasing Epworth Town Colts beat Wakefield 3-2 in their Division One North clash.

Harrison Coley bagged a brace and Ritchie Burdett netted a penalty.
