Not playing games for Doncaster Rovers is something Brad Halliday is not used to - nor is he keen for it to become a habit.

Halliday had played every minute of every game in every competition since his arrival last summer until he was substituted during the defeat at Plymouth Argyle last month, ending an ever-present record spanning 52 games.

He then found himself not starting the next two matches before returning to the XI for the FA Cup triumph over FC United of Manchester.

Though fatigue was a factor in his absence from the side, Halliday admits it gave himself the opportunity to reflect on his own performances for Rovers.

“I questioned myself first and foremost when I came out of the team,” the right back said.

“But a big part of it was the physical side of things and I was rested.

“It gave me a chance to reset, get my physical side back and come out to try to perform as consistently as I did last season.

“It’s frustrating when you’re not picked but this season is a lot different with the fixtures so close together and you’re playing Saturday-Tuesday most weeks.

“I took the positives from it and it gave me chance to reset.”

Halliday’s place at right back was taken by his good friend Joe Wright, and there was definitely no hard feelings.

“I thought he was brilliant,” he said. “The game against Lincoln I thought the gaffer got the tactics spot on and Joe did really well. It was a tough game.

“I want to play every game this season. If I do get tired, the gaffer will see that and he’ll make the change.

“I try to be as professional as I can, recover properly and do my best for him to not make the changes.”
