Taylor has been out of action since the draw with AFC Wimbledon a month ago. Though he initially was not expected to be sidelined for long, it is understood that he suffered a setback during his recovery.

Gomes returned off the bench in last Sunday’s FA Cup game with Carlisle United, having not featured since the defeat to Crewe Alexandra in October.

But the Spanish midfielder suffered a recurrence of the injury during the game, which Moore described as a blow.

“Tayls is not available - I’m not going to risk it, it’s pointless.

“And Madger won’t be available either.

“After this weekend’s game we’ve got a full week and we can really assess them more closely heading into next weekend.

“We’re missing two of our key, influential players.

“With the way Madger started the season, not just in his performances but also he’s added goals.

“There’s none more frustrated than Madger at the moment with missing games.

“They’ve both been sorely missed so when we do get them back they’ll be welcome additions to the squad.”

Moore confirmed Danny Amos will be available this weekend.

The full back was forced off against Carlisle due to a collision but has been passed fit to travel to Northampton after missing the midweek defeat at Hull City.

Despite heading into a third game in just six games, Moore said he has no fresh injury worries among his squad.
