Barnsley chief executive on speculation over interest in Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Moore

Barnsley chief executive Dane Murphy has distanced the club from speculation they have been interested in Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Moore for their managerial vacancy.

Moore found himself at the top of the betting market for the role since Gerhard Struber departed Oakwell for New York Red Bulls earlier this month.

The Free Press understands Moore has shown no interest in a switch across South Yorkshire to Barnsley, who he played for between 2008 and 2010.

And Murphy confirmed the 46-year-old is not an individual they have considered for the job on this occasion.

“We haven’t [made contact],” he told BBC Radio Sheffield. “We’ve never picked up the phone to Doncaster or Darren.

“He has been on our list in the past but there has not been an enquiry or any conversation with Darren or Doncaster.”

Murphy confirmed Barnsley have a three man shortlist for the role including former Bayern Munich coach Valerien Ismael and current caretaker boss Adam Murray.
