Doncaster Town return to winning ways as they close in on Yorkshire South Premier League title

Town have led the way in the division for the majority of the season but suffered a wobble in recent weeks with consecutive defeats and the surprise sacking of captain Luke Townsend.

But they showed ruthlessness to return to winning ways against Aston Hall, who were swept aside with ease.

Aston Hall made steady progress from the start, with opener Matthew Cartwright top scoring with 28, and they stood in a not too disastrous position of 92-5 before the rot set in.

By the time 114 runs were on the board, Aston were all out with Duncan Heath claiming 3-22 for Town.

It took less than 20 overs for Doncaster to knock off the required score.

Opener James Stuart smashed 72 runs off 60 balls with Heath added 31 before becoming the only wicket to fall.

Town hold a 20 point lead at the top of the table with only three games remaining as they prepare to visit a strong Wakefield Thornes outfit this weekend.

Elsewhere in the division, Tickhill got the job done with the ball as they saw off Whitley Hall in a low scoring affair at Alderson Drive.

Tickhill lost wickets early before a 46 run partnership between Mark Cummins and Liam Johnson steadied the ship.

Johnson would top score with 30 as Tickhill fell to 123 all out in the 42nd over.

Sam Woodcock claimed 5-18 on what was certainly as day for the bowlers.

Whitley Hall lacked anyone to hold the innings together as they lost wickets regularly and cheaply.

Binura Fernado led the charge for Tickhill, claiming 5-32 including the final four wickets to fall.
