The Knights welcome Pool 5 leaders Newport Gwent Dragons Premiership Select to Castle Park in a 2.30pm kick off.

Griffiths made wholesale changes for the club’s opening game in the competition at Jersey, which the Knights drew 22-22 but fielded a stronger side for the home game against Connacht Eagles.

“I’ll obviously have an eye on our Championship game against Nottingham on Boxing Day when it comes to the two games against the Dragons, because that’s a massive game for us,” he said.

“But at the same time I want to keep the various combinations together and I want to maintain our momentum.”

Given the Knights’ superb league form – they strengthened their grip on second place in the Championship last weekend – they will start as favourites.

But director of rugby Griffiths knows his compatriots will not arrive at Castle Park to merely go through the motions.

The Dragons have won both opening games in the competition, beating Connacht and Jersey.

“We’ve been here before,” Griffiths said. “It’s Wales verses England - and Dragons will certainly be fired up.

“We certainly won’t be underestimating them because they’ve got some good players

“They can play either a scrummaging and driving game or they can move the ball, so we’ve got to be prepared for whatever they throw at us on the day.”
