Pontefract League round-up: Brodsworth Main strengthen grip on top spot, Askern end Rossington’s winning streak

Unbeaten Brodsworth Main remain clear at the top of Pontefract League Division One after a two wicket win at home to Whitley Bridge.

The visitors posted 180-9 before Brodsworth knocked off in good time but for the loss of eight wickets.

Craig Richardson has had a fine season with the ball and struck again to remove Whitley’s first three batsmen and finish with 3-25.

Richardson was forced to make a vital contribution with the bat as he made 19 not out and fellow tailender Adrian Price added an unbeaten 14 to complete a hard earned win.

Main have won nine out of ten league games and have a 30-point cushion to third place.

Rossington Main’s four-game winning streak in Division One was brought to an end at Askern Welfare.

Andrew Gardiner (79no), Sam Roby (53) and Greg Mann (48) saw Rossington up to 218-6 from their allotted overs.

Askern chased well, though, and reached their target in the penultimate over thanks to contributions from Andrew O’Grady (65), David Longley (47), Aaron Gillies (45) and Sachira Madapatha (30no).

Bottom side Barnby Dun went down fighting at second-placed Fairburn.

Mark Nurse took 4-66 but the hosts looked out of sight after reaching a massive 332-7.

Kieren Dinnage led the response with a sensational 125 off 62 balls and Nurse hit 51 as Barnby Dun closed on 292 all out.

Relegation-threatened Hatfield Town won in convincing fashion at home to Old Sharlston.

Ellis Pattison (5-61) and Kevin Marshall (3-60) ripped through the visitors to leave them 143 all out before Muhmmad Adeel (59) guided the home side to four wicket win.
