Local cricket: Town face Academy

DONCASTER Town hope to get their season started at the second time of asking on Saturday.

Alex Gosney’s side are scheduled to face Yorkshire Academy at Weetwood, Leeds.

Their opening game of the new campaign against Appleby Frodingham was postponed due to bad weather.

All six matches on the opening day of the ECB Yorkshire Premier League were postponed after heavy rain took its toll on pitches across the region.

The league’s organising committee took the decision last Thursday following several days of rain and consultations with groundsmen and club officials.

The entire April 21 programme has been switched instead to September 15.

Town are also in action on Sunday when they begin their cup quest in the ECB National Club Championship.

Doncaster host Wickersley at Town Fields (1pm).

See this week’s Free Press for a round-up of action from the Pontefract & District and South Yorkshire Leagues.
