Doncaster Town’s Simon Widdup is eyeing a place in the record books after becoming the first Yorkshire League batsman to pass 1000 league runs for the season.
Widdup scored 95 not out and then 113 to guide high flying Town to impressive weekend wins over Hull and Rotherham.
He moved onto 1075 runs for the season at an average of 67.19, including eight fifties and three hundreds.
Andrew Bourke’s 1421 runs in 2003 is currently the most runs by an Englishman, while Driffield’s Aamer Sajjid holds the league record of 1570.
Town entertain bottom side Sheffield United on Saturday (noon).
