The scene at Conisbrough’s St Peter’s Drive ground (above) was a familiar one across the county on the opening day of the new club cricket season.

However, Rossington Main did the beat the weather and also got off to a winning start in Pontefract League Division Two by beating Allerton Bywater by three wickets.

Scott Wood snared 5-32 as Main skittled the visitors for 112.

Opener Michael Richardson made 42 in response, although Rossington did not have it all their own way before they reached their target for the loss of seven wickets in the 40th over.

A handful of games survived the weather in the South Yorkshire League, including wins for Wath B, Mexborough, Sprotbrough B and Hatfield Main.
