Doncaster Town skipper Alex Gosney has challenged his streamlined squad to better their fifth place finish in last season’s ECB Yorkshire Premier League.

Town open their new league campaign with a tough-looking trip to Scarborough today.

They have lost the services of Gareth Cox, Ashley Knowles, Nick Wright, Amit Kundra, Oliver Jackson, Jonathan Redfern and Nick Morley.

Former skipper Graeme Attenborough has re-joined the club from Haxey, while left arm seamer Chris Jeeves has been recruited from Adwick.

Gosney said: “We’ve lost a few players but that gives an opportunity for other people to step up to the plate.

“Young lads like Ryan Capstick and Charlie Allen will get their chance. And the lads that are still here can call upon the experience they gained last season.

“I still expect us to finish around that top five mark,” he added. “I want us to keep pushing on.”

Doncaster warmed up for the new season with a seven wicket win at Methley on Sunday.

In the South Yorkshire League - now extended to six divisions - Tickhill have signed 6’5” Australian quick Stephen Reid following their promotion to the Premier Division.

Rossington hope to continue their rise up the Pontefract League after winning promotion from Division Four last season.
