Doncaster Town won the Doncaster & District Infirmary Evening League Cup after beating Warmsworth at Tickhill.

Gareth Cox was the star of the show as he smashed 77 off just 42 balls to help Town - who are also in contention to win the league title - to a seven wicket success.

Warmsworth batted first and Aussie opener Lincoln Jacobs quickly got into his stride, depositing veteran Nick Johnson onto Alderson Drive twice in two overs.

He departed for 19, soon followed by Hadley, both to the bowling of Alan Stoves.

A good partnership then developed between skipper Tom Hyde and Andy Haywood, until both of them fell to good catches in the deep off the bowling of Jonathan Redfern for 42 and 22 respectively.

The innings limped to 120-6 from 20 overs. Stoves finished with 2-12, Redfern 2-26 and Graeme Attenborough 2-14.

In reply Doncaster’s innings was dominated by Cox whose knock included seven fours and four sixes.

Three wickets went down but youngster Charlie Allen hammered an unbeaten 17 off eight balls, including two sixes, to wrap up victory with more than seven overs remaining.
