Doncaster Town are off to Scarborough for the Yorkshire League’s T20 finals day after coasting to victory in Group C.

Alex Gosney’s side brushed aside Barnsley and Appleby Frodingham at Town Field on Sunday and will be joined by York, Driffield and Sheffield Collegiate at North Marine Road on July 21.

Gosney (47) and Gareth Cox (31) top scored in Doncaster’s 170-6 in their early morning semi-final against Barnsley, before left arm spinner Jonathan Redfern snared 6-13 to help skittle their South Yorkshire rivals for 99.

But there was even better to come in the final against a youthful Frodingham outfit who defeated Sheffield United in the other semi.

Appleby simply had no answer to the explosive hitting of Simon Widdup who smashed a six off the last ball of the innings to reach 101 not out, and take his team to an unassailable 203-4.

For good measure Widdup then collected 4-27 with his off spin, while Curtis Free took 3-20 in a one-sided contest.

Appleby were never in the hunt and closed on 131 all out.

Town’s T20 exploits followed hot on the heels of the previous weekend’s win at Bradford League side Hanging Heaton, which booked a place in the last 32 of the ECB National Club Championship and another shoot-out with Yorkshire League champions York.

Gosney’s men travel to Sheffield Collegiate on Saturday in the league.
