WARNING: VIDEO CONTAINS STRONG LANGUAGE

Callum Hancock has released a 17 minute video to tell his side of the story and also announce plans to return to boxing following the incident which saw him sent down for breaking a bouncer's jaw, cheekbone and eye socket with a single punch.

Hancock, 25, was jailed in September 2015 following the incident at Sheffield's Gentings Casino which left doorman Andrew Walton unable to work - and which he said had hurt him "financially, emotionally and physically."

But now back on the outside, the Eckington-based middleweight, has said he has no regrets about the punch but now wants to put the row behind him and move on.

He said: "I did the crime and I've done my time. Do I regret it? No. I know that sounds harsh but at that moment in time, I was sticking up for myself."

"I have hit the bloke, but not how it was made out. They made me sound like an animal. I hit him once in self defence."

Hancock punched doorman Mr Walton as he was kicked out of the Arundel Gate casino at 5.40am on Saturday, March 21, 2015.

Sheffield Crown Court heard how Hancock, who won all seven of his professional fights, had also thrown several punches towards a female member of staff in the fracas and pleaded guilty to GBH.

The court was told how Mr Walton, 46, needed metal plates and pins in his cheek and initially couldn’t eat and had to drink through a straw because of his injuries.

In the video, uploaded to video sharing website YouTube, Hancock tells interviewer Kugan Cassius, of his part in the drama as the pair drive along the Parkway, through Sheffield before parking up in Sheffield United's Bramall Lane car park.

He said: "I've kept my head down and done my time. I'm unleashed, I'm off the tag, out of the pen and good to go. I got provoked. The doorman tried his luck with me and I stuck up for myself.

"They were ragging me about like a little puppy dog, Every man has a breaking point, when someone is choking me out and telling me they are going to fill my face in in a blind spot outside, what am I meant to do?"

Referring to punching the doorman, he said: "I let one go and that were that."

The court heard how 6ft 3in Hancock was verbally abusive towards staff inside the casino and when asked to leave initially, picked up a bar stool and swung it towards the manager, hitting a female member of staff in her shins.

He was then escorted from the premises and says in the video: "As soon as he let go of me outside, yeah, I hit him. I hit him once."

The court was told how Hancock had downed nine glasses of Jack Daniel's and Coke during the evening.

He said his spell behind bars had taught him lessons and said: "With prison, its not the people and the place that bother you, it is the people outside and life that you miss. When you're on 23 hour bang up and surrounded by negativity you realise a lot.

"It is one big long look in the mirror. It is a harsh wake-up call.

"I'm not a bad person. I've done jail and done my sentence, I just want to crack on now."
