M&S customers can now book timed slots to do their food shop - here’s how

If you’d rather do your food shopping in person, but want to avoid crowds, Marks & Spencer might have the answer.

The introduction of a ‘Book & Shop’ service from M&S means shoppers are able to reserve a time slot to do their shopping - and skip the queue once they’re finished.

The retailer said, “It’s an important part of our efforts to make shopping easier for our customers and continuing to help them shop with confidence during this unprecedented time.”

How does it work?

Customers reserve a slot online to shop in-store, and can then turn up at their chosen branch at their specified time. Should there be a queue to enter the store, Book & Shop customers will be able to skip ahead.

M&S says that, due to social distancing measures, its stores sometimes experience queues. The Book & Shop service allows the business to “manage footfall across the day, meaning customers will be able to book a slot that suits them and won’t need to queue on arrival.”

While the focus of the Book & Shop service is to allow customers to shop for food, they will be permitted to shop in the home and clothing sections as well. The shopping slot doesn’t last a set amount of time, so once you arrive in store, you can do your shopping as normal without having to worry about a time limit.

As per government guidelines, M&S states that “only one person will be allowed per booking slot.”

However for those who need assistance to shop, a store might be able to accommodate an additional customer to help you.

“But it will be the store’s discretion to determine if a customer requires assistance hence people ring the store if you need any assistance,” M&S adds.

Customers are still permitted to shop at M&S without previously booking a slot, but they may have to queue beforehand.

The easiest way to book a Book & Shop slot at M&S is on the M&S website.

On the website, you can enter your postcode to find your local M&S store. Select your desired location and you will be able to see the available time slots.

Choose your time slot and click ‘confirm selection.’ From there, you’ll need to enter your first and last name, email address and mobile number to book.

Alternatively, if you cannot use the M&S website for any reason, you can call the M&S customer service team who can help you arrange a slot over the phone by phoning your local branch, or you can talk to a member of staff in store.
