A feast of fun for all at Wroot - here's what you need to know about the event

A taste of the Caribbean, real ales, a dinosaur and a donkey - there is really something for everyone at this year's Wroot Feast.

The annual event takes place on Saturday, July 14, between noon and 7pm and promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

Despite being one of the smallest villages in the Isle, the residents there certainly know how to put on an event, and there is a vast array of attractions at the 2018 show.

Organiser Neil Sanderson said: “Well it’s that time of year again folks when one of the smallest villages in the Isle of Axholme put on nearly the biggest family fun day called Wroot Feast.

“We have made a few changes to the way it normally runs by adding free music from a local band called RambleGamble who will close the event for us.

“Everyone is invited to come along and enjoy the attractions, and if anyone would like to help in organising future events then please get in touch via our Facebook page.”

Among this year’s attractions are Daisy the T-Rex, Bumblebee from Transformers, children’s races, a pottery workshop, an owl display, reptiles - including Tiny the snake, donkeys, bouncy castles, face painting, real ales, Caribbean food, donuts, a bungee trampoline, Scunthorpe Marjorette display, a street dancing display, local produce stalls, craft stalls and live music.

Help is needed on the day for any willing volunteers.

Villager Mrs Elizabeth Mockler said: “Wroot Feast is almost upon us and it’s going to be a fantastic year, especially with the festivities going on until slightly longer in the day.

“I am currently creating a schedule for the gate (to collect entrance money and welcome people to the feast).

“I already have a few willing volunteers but we are hoping for 14-16 people to spread the load.

“Could you possibly spare just one hour?

“The feast committee are amazing but really need your help.

“Once we have enough volunteers I will create a schedule so that we all know our times.”

Any willing helpers can volunteer via the Feast Facebook page.
