Young Doncaster dancer set for London show
A twinkle-toed schoolgirl is aiming to wow the crowds when she takes to the stage as part of a performance of The Nutcracker in London.
Amy Jones only started dancing at the age of nine at the Allegro Theatre Dance Academy in Doncaster, but has already scooped a number of prestigious awards as her career goes from strength to strength.
The 13-year-old is now preparing to tread the boards at the London Coliseum next month in the role of Clara as part of the latest production of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker from December 20 to 24 and January 3 to 7.
She is currently studying at the prestigious Tring Park School of Performing Arts in Hertfordshire, whose alumni includes Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress Daisy Ridley.
Proud mum Sally said: “We are so very proud of Amy and all she has achieved. She has worked incredibly hard over the last few years training at Allegro and associate programmes, always showing great dedication and determination.
“She has always had clear goals and always sets herself new ones, which I think has certainly contributed to her success.
“For the last year she has dreamed of nothing else but having the opportunity to dance full time, so this is definitely a happy ending for her.”
Lucy Rothwell, dance teacher at the Allegro Theatre Dance Academy, said she was also incredibly proud of her student.
She added: “Amy is a positive role model and inspiration. Her work ethic, passion and enthusiasm has a great effect on us all.
“I always knew Amy had a special talent and we cannot express how truly proud we are of her and everything she has accomplished.”
