Yorkshire Water apologies for mystery noise that's been keeping Doncaster awake

Residents from as far afield as Rossington and Wheatley had complained of a high-pitched squealing noise which had been keeping them from sleeping at night.
The source of the sound has now been traced to a sewage treatment plant on Wheatley Hall Road – and Yorkshire Water chiefs have issued an apology after discovering the racket was being caused by faulty machinery.

Hide AdA Yorkshire Water spokesman said: “We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused to local residents by overnight noise at our Sandall wastewater treatment works.
"We have investigated and removed a piece of equipment from operation while it is being repaired.”
Reporting the noise on Facebook, one resident said: “Anyone know what that high pitched squeal is? It's been going on for ages.”
Another added: “Been going on about a week does my nut in - sounds like rusty swings.”
