Work underway to tackle large diesel spillage at Doncaster nature reserve

A clean-up operation to deal with a 'major diesel spillage' near to a Doncaster nature reserve has got underway.

Teams from the Environment Agency were sent out to Potteric Carr yesterday, due to a 'large diesel spillage' upstream from the nature reserve.

Paul Reeves of the Environment Agency said of the operation on Twitter: "We have had teams working near #Doncaster today dealing with a major oil pollution upstream of @YWTPottericCarr nature reserve.

The Environment Agency has resumed the operation this morning, working alongside White Rose Way by McDonald's and the ponds by Carolina Way.

The cause of the diesel spillage has not yet been confirmed by the Environment Agency, who have been contacted for more information.
