Woman in 80’s deterred would-be attacker

A BRAVE 83-year old woman foiled a man’s attempts to snatch her handbag - by holding tight and shouting for help.

The alleged attempted bag snatch was on Marsh Street, Wombwell, at 1.30pm on January 7.

An 83-year old woman was waiting on the street when she was approached by an unknown man.

After the women refused to relinquish her handbag, a passer-by went to her aid and the suspect ran away empty-handed.

The man is described as white, in his twenties and of slim build. On the day of this incident, he was wearing a red baseball cap.

Police are seeking witnesses.
