Woman dies in motorway smash

CRASH investigators are still trying to piece together what happened in a crash where a 52-year-old-woman died after leaving the M1.

The crash happened at 5.40am on Sunday, when the silver Vauxhall Corsa she was driving left the north bound carriageway near to junction 31, went over the central reservation and ending up on its roof.

The woman, from Hartlepool died from head injuries, and her 40-year-old male passenger needed hospital treatment for minor injuries at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.

Police would like anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them on 101, quoting incident 239.
