Witness describes horror Doncaster crash that left pedestrian fighting for his life

An eye-witness has described how he tried to help a 29-year-old pedestrian who was left fighting for his life after being hit by a car.

The man, who did not want to be named, described how he found the 29-year-old laying in the road following the smash in Balby Carr Bank on Saturday morning.

The witness said: “His injuries were terrible, he had a pulse and was breathing but was unconscious.

“About 100 metres away was a car on its roof and then we realised there was another car in the ditch with two people trapped, it was chaos.

“I stayed with him until the ambulance arrived and did what I could.”

Police have arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of driving over the prescribed limit after a crash involving a black BMW and a black Vauxhall Corsa on Balby Carr Bank.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “At around 5.45am, a black Vauxhall Corsa and a black BMW 520d, both travelling in the direction towards Hexthorpe, were involved in a collision on Balby Carr Bank, which resulted in a further collision between the BMW and the 29-year-old male pedestrian.

“The man was immediately taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.”

The 44-year old man driving the BMW was arrested on suspicion of driving over the prescribed limit.

The 47-year-old woman driving the Corsa and two passengers, a man and a woman, suffered minor injuries.

Officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the incident, to please get in touch.
