Wild water and rocket science in Rotherham

Summer fun will include wild water play with spray, mist and jets for half-term at Magna.

Aqua-Tek is one of the UK’s largest outdoor water play areas and re-opens on May 27. A Sci-Tek area will feature trampoline nets, spinning bowls, tilted roundabouts, and twisted slides, along with rockets.

Stuart Ballard, education manager at Magna, said: “Aqua-Tek is a real favourite with the younger visitors. Our Sci-Tek play area also presents a perfect opportunity for the kids to have a blast, while learning and becoming more interested in the world of science – although they don’t always realise it.”

Throughout the holidays, families can go on guided tours with an ex-steel worker and find out about the history and heritage of the old Templeborough steelworks.

Or there’s the chance to see a blacksmith at work and learn how steel was made. There’s the excitement of Magna’s Rocket Show, and find out all about home-made rockets and how they work.

Mr Ballard added: “We can’t always rely on the weather being fine, so it’s great that we’re also able to run indoor activities.

“Our tours and demonstrations are fit for all the family, including the rocket show, when rockets filled with fuel, fizz, water or air, all set off with a whoosh!”

Magna, housed in the former Templeborough steelworks, has more than 100 hands-on exhibits designed to explore the four elements of air, water, earth and fire.

All activities are free after admission. For more information visit www.visitmagna.co.uk
