The Met Office has issued the warning for areas including Doncaster, Penistone, Rotherham and Barnsley, with winds potentially causing short-term loss of power in some places as well as delays on the roads and railways.

Forecasers warned strong south westerly winds are expected for parts of Scotland and northern England throughout the day, with "gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour are likely, with 70-75 mph gusts around some of the most exposed coastal and upland sites".

As well as listing delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport, the Met Office also says that there will ‘probably be some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer.’

It also says that delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are likely.
