South Yorkshire wakes up to blanket of snow

South Yorkshire has woken up to a blanket of snow this morning after temperatures plummeted.

Roads across the county are covered this morning and the snow is still reported to be falling.

A number of bus services are affected, with Stagecoach Yorkshire reporting that its 72 and 72a services are only serving main roads, with drivers avoiding estates because of the wintry conditions.

Its service 2 in Hoyland, Barnsley, is also affected by the snow.

The firm’s service 25 is not serving Chadwick Road in Arbourthorne, Sheffield, due to snow and ice.

Stagecoach said staff are ‘currently testing all routes’ and more diversions could be announced.

First South Yorkshire’s X5 service towards Dinnington, Rotherham, is unable to serve Fence Hill at Swallownest due to the road becoming impassable.

Buses have been diverted via the B6200 bypass, Chesterfield Road and Main street.
