Police issue urgent warning as heavy snow falls across Doncaster - and there's more to come

Motorists in South Yorkshire are being urged not to travel today, with roads under a blanket of snow this morning and more on its way.

South Yorkshire Police said: “There is significant snowfall across most of the force area and more to come over the next few hours. Please do not travel unless absolutely essential.

“If you do travel please drive to the conditions and remember your stopping ability will be greatly extended, even if you have four wheel drive.”

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for snow today across South Yorkshire.

It is set to remain in place until 1pm.

The Met Office said: “Heavy snow will lead to some disruption during Tuesday morning.

“Travel delays on roads are likely, stranding some vehicles and passengers.

“Some delays and cancellations to rail and air travel are likely.

“There is a good chance that some rural communities could become cut off.”
