Weather warning - squally showers and 50mph gusts forecast

While parts of Britain are bracing themselves for a double battering of gale force winds, stirred up by a 250mph jet stream, and snow this weekend, the Yorkshire and Humber region can expect squally showers and very windy weather with gusts up to 50mph.

The forecast for our region from the Met Office for the next few days is as follows:

Today: A breezy and mostly dry day with sunny spells, but isolated showers are possible, these mainly on the hills in the west where they may be wintry. Maximum Temperature 8C.

Tonight: A spell of rain will cross all parts during the evening, clearing in the early hours of Friday to leave squally showers. Becoming very windy, with gales in exposed places. Minimum Temperature 4C.

Friday: A brief drier interlude during the morning, before further wet and very windy weather spreads to all parts during the afternoon. Despite this it will be unusually mild. Maximum Temperature 14C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday: Very windy throughout. Early rain clearing then cold with sunny intervals and wintry showers on Saturday. Turning less cold but with more rain later Sunday, this lasting well into Monday.
