Wath Festival organisers clarify appearance of singing star Jessica Simpson at annual music event

Organisers of this year's Wath Festival have confirmed Jessica Simpson will be appearing at this year's event - but it is not the American pop star as some fans first thought.

The annual four day music festival, running from Friday, April 29, to Monday, May 2, regularly attracts around 5000 visitors - and some pop music fans were particularly excited when organisers revealed Jessica Simpson was one of the acts due to perform on the Monday afternoon slot.

Some thought it could be the American singer, reality TV star and actress, however festival organisers moved to clarify this week that it is in fact Cumbria-based folk musician Jessica Simpson who will instead be appearing.

Dave Adnitt, chair of the Wath Festival Organising Team, said: "Just to confirm - it's Jessica Simpson the folk singer/musician who hails from Cumbria who is performing at the festival and not the American Jessica Simpson.

"I had the pleasure of seeing her excellent performance in Kendal recently and she's thrilled about appearing at the festival. We're very much looking forward to welcoming her to Wath for the first time."

Other acts due to appear at the festival include Show of Hands at the Montgomery Hall venue on Sunday, May 1. These award winning performers, Steve Knightley and Phil Beer, who are widely acknowledged as the finest acoustic roots duo in England are taking a short break from their nationwide tour to visit Wath.

Other performers due to appear include Jez Lowe, Rob Heron and the Teapad Orchestra, Billy Mitchell, Edward II, the Tom McConville Band, and The Willows across several different venues.

There will also be street dancing, comedy routines and a maypole dance on the Saturday, along with the popular throwing of the bread buns from the church tower at noon, a tradition which dates back around 200 years.
