Bosses at the firm confirmed that those affected would receive a £30 cheque after nearly a week of relying on boiling water before drinking - or turning to bottled supplies.

Customers hit out after the firm appeared to back-track on their cash pledge for postcodes that were originally warned not to drink the water but later found not to be contaminated.

Now bosses at the company confirmed ALL customers living at postcodes on the original list put out on Friday would receive the £30.

The alarm was raised on Friday when Yorkshire Water issued a Do Not Drink notice to residents in DN8 postcodes in Doncaster, affecting Thorne, Moorends and Sandtoft.

Joanne Gray posted on Facebook: “Whether our water was actually affected is irrelevant, the whole of Thorne and Moorends was informed not to use the water and has been inconvenienced and should receive the payment.”

A boil notice will remain in place until at least Thursday.

Charlie Haysom, Director of Service Delivery, said: “Our number one priority is our customers’ health and safety and this is why the boil order notice in Thorne is remaining in place until at least today. This assessment is supported by Public Health England who we have been closely consulting with.

“We are encouraged that sample results are improving, but we need them to be completely clear before we can lift the boil order notice. Once again, we would like to thank local residents for their ongoing patience and we hope the £30 good will gesture payment we announced yesterday will help deal with this frustrating and inconvenient situation.
