Yorkshire Water says supplies are now up and running again in and around Askern after a huge water main burst led to disruption for thousands of people.

Residents in Askern, Norton, Campsall, Moss, Fenwick and Braithwaite were all cut off or faced low pressure and were forced to rely on bottle water dished out by the firm across the weekend.

Announcing the restoration of the supply on Twitter, a spokesman said: “REPAIR COMPLETE! We have FINALLY repaired the water main and restored water supplies to the area.

" We are very sorry for the inconvenience and upset this has caused, we appreciate that this incident has taken far longer to resolve than we anticipated.

“There is a chance of discolouration due to the burst. Apologies again & we thank you for your patience.”

But residents were left fuming at the three day cut – and many said they had been kept in the dark by Yorkshire Water during the repairs.

Kerri Gillespie Aldridge said: “Three days of this and no correspondence whatsoever.

“Shame on Yorkshire Water for their lack of action in providing communities with information and resources.”

Jaime Short posted: “I'm a resident in Moss and the communication is appalling. No water for 3 days!”

Jessie McDonald added: “I live in Moss – its been terrible, no one telling us anything.”

The company set up water collection points in Askern – but many complained that the centres were inaccessible or empty by the time people arrived to collect water.

Sandra Appleby Twiby wrote: “None at all dropped in Campsall or Norton, by time they get to Askern its gone, complete joke.”

Carol Sockett wrote: “Dropping them too far away and not being able to go for any! Disgrace! One angry fed up disabled person! Good job I have caring family and friends.”

In a separate incident this morning, homes in the Church Balk area of Edenthorpe have also been left without water after a burst main.
