Former soldiers from the regiment mingled with current troops from The Rifles, the regiment which the KOYLI was later absorbed into it, as the memorial was unveiled by Brigadier Roger Preston.

Major Preston paid tribute to those who had contributed to the £120,000 cost of the memorial, which has been met by donors including former soldiers.
