Watch out for bogus workers, Isle householders warned

False callers have targeted homes from Scunthorpe to Burringham in the recent past.

Last Saturday a man knocked on the door of an address on Pasture Avenue, Burringham, claiming to be working for the local authority. He said he needed to do some checks in the garden.

The female occupant asked the man for ID and when he did not have any, she refused and he left. The woman then made a call to the local authority, who claimed that they were not carrying out any such work.

Just after 8am on Sunday, a second call was made to police by a resident in Thealby, who had had a similar experience.

The man who was on Pasture Avenue has been described as a white male, of unkempt appearance and stocky build. He was bald and aged in his mid to late 40s. He was wearing a blue and green coloured t-shirt, jeans and he drove away in a dark blue saloon car.

Police also warn about people who will target homes to carry out work, will often quote a reasonable price, and then after the work is done will demand a much higher price.

Bogus officials can try to gain entrance to your home by claiming work needs to be done inside. NEVER let them in, and always check with the company they say they are working for. Companies will inform you if they are sending somebody to carry out work.

Police advise those with elderly relatives to speak to them about the possibility of false callers.
