The outdoor gym at Sandall Park has been shut since March 23 after the Government announced strict lockdown measures.

But in recent days, protective orange mesh netting preventing people from using the equipment has been ripped down and signs warning people to stay away in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus have been removed.

A spokesman for Friends of Sandall Park, the volunteer group that looks after the park, said the protective measures had not been removed by Doncaster Council.

She said: “All the plastic netting and the warning signs have been removed and people are using it. The guidance is still do not use play area and outdoor equipment.

“Whoever did this was acting unlawfully. Please adhere to the rules - they are there for everyone's safety.”
