Police are warning Isle businesses to be on their guard following reports that a bogus company is operating in the region claiming to be selling advertising space for Humberside Police.
A business received a telephone call from someone claiming to be selling advertising space in a magazine on behalf of the force.
Police said the caller quoted £225, however the business, which has not been named, declined and decided to report the incident to the police as they were concerned about the authenticity of the call.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Humberside Police would like to emphasize that they do not make calls of this nature and certainly would never contact individuals or businesses asking for payment.
“Anyone who receives call of this nature should disregard it and never make payment.
“If businesses feel they have been contacted by calls of this nature or have paid for advertising as part of a scam they should call the national fraud reporting centre - Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.”
