Ward at Scunthorpe Hospital reopens after closure due to illness

Ward 11 at Scunthorpe hospital has reopened following an outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting.

The ward was declared closed to new admissions and transfers at the beginning of July. The infection prevention and control team has worked hard to control the outbreak, carrying out regular disinfection and monitoring the situation on a daily basis.

There’s no specific cure for the illness, which is usually mild and shouldn’t last more than a couple of days.

Anyone affected should follow this advice and not turn up to hospital until they have been symptom free for 48 hours:

Stay at home

Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration

Take paracetamol for any fever or aches and pains

If you feel like eating, eat foods that are easy to digest

Contact your GP to seek advice if your symptoms last longer than a few days or if you already have a serious illness.
