Volunteers wanted to monitor day-to-day life in Doncaster prison

More volunteers are wanted to help monitor day-to-day life in prison in Doncaster.

Members of the Independent Monitoring Board, which monitors HMP Doncaster and the town’s Young Offenders’ Institution, work an average of two or three days per month.

Their role, which is a government appointment, is to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained.

Members have unrestricted access to the prison at any time and can talk to any prisoner they wish to, out of sight and hearing of members of staff.

They visit the kitchens, workshops, cells, recreation areas, healthcare centre and chaplaincy.
