ACTIVE over-60s are in for a treat as part of a grants scheme set to boost the quality of life for Doncaster residents.
Doncaster Central Development Trust – the company taking over community led programme Doncaster New Deal For Communities (NDC)- will award several grants of up to 3,000 for volunteer-led groups to develop 'community agents.'
The agents will help older communities keep both their minds and bodies active as part of the Government-funded programme.
Chris Brewster, grants panel member, said: "These grants will help the older population of Doncaster by offering voluntary groups the support they need.
"By becoming a community agent, volunteers approaching retirement will have the chance to include other mature residents in both social and physical activities.
"The scheme aims to help people at risk of social isolation and loneliness as they move into retirement, to encourage them to stay active, independent and positively engaged in society."
Volunteer-led organisations across Doncaster can apply for funding.
The fund will be open to applications until March 4 and projects must end by December 31.
